Bio

I grew up in a big family (6 siblings), we were all active in sports, and my father, a general surgeon, was always busy putting one of us back together. His ability to stitch up and heal family, friends, and neighbors inspired and motivated me to be a Doctor, but what really drew me to medicine was the opportunity to help others. Orthopedic surgery allows me to help my patients, and make a real impact on the quality of their lives. It is such a gift to see what a difference orthopedic and spine care can do for a patient.

In addition to my Orthopedic Surgery training at the University of California, San Francisco, I am fellowship trained in Spine Surgery from Jefferson University and the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. I am one of only two original members of the MISS Society in Washington State, and offer Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery to my patients. Improving and delivering the best Spine Care is very important to me. As Associate Director of The Spine Scoap Registry (Surgical Care Outcome Assessment Program), I am working together with other interested Doctors, to assess and improve Spine Care for all the residents of WA State.

Mary and I were married in 1979 and raised a family of three; Matthew, Annelise and Nell. We feel blessed to live in the Northwest, with an active life, full of family and friends.
